South Street, Romford

Overview:

Greenfield Demolition was employed by IC Construction to undertake the demolition works at 64 South Street, Romford. The building was a former nightclub and in mid-terrace with two very busy retail/financial stores either side. The building was to be demolished behind the front facade making way for a residential and commercial development.

Our Scope:

Asbestos Removal

Soft Strip

Separations

Hand Demolition to the rear of the site

Demolition

Remove slab and foundations

Crush hardcore and concrete arisings and stockpile

Reduced dig to create basement area (clear from site)

Challenge:

Greenfield’s biggest challenge on this project was later on in the project. With the crushed material being reused by the client in the early stages of construction, Greenfield had to mobilise around a tight site during the reduced dig.

Solutions:

To enable us to reduce this challenge, Greenfield swapped one of our larger 22t Excavator for one of our smaller 13t Excavators. We have grown strong working relationships with local suppliers in and around the South East and worked closely with the haulage company to enable the amount of inert material that was being excavated being stockpiled

Aldi Store, Upminster

Client:

Camford Construction Management

Site:

Aldi Store, St Mary's Lane, Upminster, London

Our Role:

Greenfield Demolition was awarded the strip out works by Camford to act as subcontractor. This would be our fifth project for DSP / Camford.

Scope:

Strip out store back to shell

De-gas and remove refrigeration units

Challenge:

The greatest challenge we faced on this project was the time frame given for our program. We had two weeks to get the store stripped back to it's shell as Aldi required the shop to be live as soon as possible.

Solutions:

We opted to use a skidsteer and 3t excavator to do the bulk of the heavy work to reduce the risk of manual handling. We employed local labour to enable us to work longer shifts and help push the project along. We completed the project on time and within budget.

Greenfield Demolition was employed by Faircloth Construction to undertake the demolition works of a Homebase, Roaring Meg Retail Park, Stevenage.
The main challenge Greenfield Demolition had to contend with was the close proximity of the neighbouring store. The neighbouring store was situated within 4 metres of the Homebase store.

Greenfield overcame this challenge under close supervision and a watchman. We also used our highly experienced machine operator who used a grab attachment to carefully bring the panels safely in a controlled manner into the site.

Overview:

Greenfield Demolition was employed to undertake the demolition works of a Toys’R’Us store in Stevenage. This was our second project for Faircloth in Roaring Meg Retail Park.

The Toys’R’Us store was to be demolished, the slabs and foundations removed with all concrete arisings to be crushed on site and left for re-use for the new build.

Challenges

The main challenge was that the Toys’R’Us store was adjoined to a neighbouring store.

Further to this, being in a retail park we had to take into consideration noise and vibrations when undertaking the demolition, especially breaking out the slab and foundations.

Solutions

Using a different method to a standalone building, Greenfield used various techniques to reduce vibrations affecting the neighbouring store.

The bay adjoining the store was the highest risk point so to overcome the challenge of the beams, Greenfield used an excavator and grab attachment to hold the beam in place to act as a temporary prop. An operative then cut through the beam with the burning gear. With the machine still in place, the 45t with sheer cut through at the middle of the bay enabling the other operator to lower the beam safely to the ground in a controlled manner.

When it came to removing the slab, operative saw cut a line 1 metre away from the adjoining store into the slab. This helped to remove the slab without causing disturbance to the neighbouring store.
