Client:

Buxton Building Contractors

Site:

Harley Street and Wigmore Place, Marylebone

Our Role

Greenfield Demolition were awarded the subcontract package for Buxton Building Contractors. This was our fourth project awarded by Buxton in the space of twelve months.

The works included the strip out and alterations of the Grade II listed building in the heart of London.

Our Scope

Strip out both structures

Create openings

Demolition of the link building between Harley Street and Wigmore Place

Removal of the roof of Wigmore Place

Challenges:

There were multiple challenges throughout this project. Site logistics, multiple trades, program, contaminated waste, to name a few.

Solutions:

Prior to the project commencing Greenfield representatives worked closely with local suppliers regarding site logistics (delivery and collection times). Greenfield was given a one week head start before following trades started coming on to site so that Buxton were able to achieve their program.

This project was a great way to start 2018 in such a prestigious area of London.

4 Oak Hill Grove, Surbiton

Our Role

Greenfield Demolition were awarded the demolition package to act as Principal Contractor. This was our first project for Croudace Portland.

Our Scope

R&D Survey

Tree Protection

Asbestos Removal

Soft Strip

Demolition

Crush & Stockpile

Challenges:

We faced a few challenges on this project mainly due to the surrounding area. A reserved woodland bounded the eastern side of the site and the other three sides were bounded by properties. These had to be at the forefront of our methodology and logistical planning.

Solutions:

To overcome these challenges we sent our Dustboss to site to ensure all processing was fully suppressed. We also had to work closely with our suppliers to avoid certain times during the day when deliveries / collections were required to minimise disruption in the local area. This method was also implemented to any noisy works onsite.

This project was completed three days before expected completion.

Our Role

Greenfield Demolition was awarded the demolition and asbestos removal works at Bunn Leisure, Selsey's White Horse Complex. This was the second part of Bunn Leisure's facility upgrade that Greenfield had been a part of.

Like previously, the park was to remain live albeit the back end of the holiday season.

Our Scope

Asbestos Removal (notifiable)

Asbestos Removal (non-notifiable)

Soft Strip

Demolition of all buildings (Storage Units, Club House, Swimming Pool Building, and Entertainment Facility)

Crush all arisings and stockpile onsite

Challenges:

The greatest challenge for this project was the timescale. The complex was to be demolished in 8 weeks including the removal of AIB and asbestos cement. Not only was this Greenfield's largest project, at the time, Greenfield were extremely busy.

Solutions:

Greenfield invested in more plant and sourced local, trained and experienced labour. We completed the works within the projected program.

Our Role:

Greenfield Demolition was awarded the demolition package by Deepwood Properties to act as Principal Contractor. This was our first project for Deepwood.

Our Scope:

R + D Survey

Remove fly-tipped waste

Asbestos Removal

Soft Strip

Demolition down to basement level

Remove all arising from site

This was a prestigious project for Greenfield. A four storey 2,500m2 footprint building with a basement for underground parking.

The building was situated adjacent the Saturn Trail canal which bounded the southern boundary and Horsell Common Conservation Park bounded the others.

Our first operation was to remove the fly-tipped waste from site which was left by people whom broke into the site prior to commencement of the works. We undertook this work throughout the day to keep cost down for the client. A soft strip was carried out in unison by another team to ensure the program was not affected.

The buildings interceptors were turned off when the offices were closed and this led to flooding in the basement. Greenfield worked closely with Deepwood to pump out and dispose of the excess water.

Greenfield managed to recycle 99.6% of all waste arising.

Bunn Leisure, Selsey

Overview:

Greenfield Demolition was awarded the demolition works at Selsey Resort by Bunn Leisure to demolish three warehouses to provide an area for parking and mobile homes. This job was to be completed over one phase and we acted as subcontractor.

Our Scope:

Asbestos Removal

Demolition of Buildings

Remove Slab and Foundations

Crush all arisings on site

Move crushed arising to White Horse development area

Challenges

Greenfield’s greatest challenge on this project was that the works were carried out during the back end of the holiday season. Great consideration had to go into the traffic management and noise reductions as not to affect the holiday resort.

Solutions

Greenfield worked closely with Bunn Leisure’s site manager pre-start to assess the busiest times leading up to the project start. We concluded that set delivery and collection times were to be implemented. Greenfield, where possible grubbed up the slab and foundations using a bucket and had set times to break the aggregate into manageable pieces.

South Street, Romford

Overview:

Greenfield Demolition was employed by IC Construction to undertake the demolition works at 64 South Street, Romford. The building was a former nightclub and in mid-terrace with two very busy retail/financial stores either side. The building was to be demolished behind the front facade making way for a residential and commercial development.

Our Scope:

Asbestos Removal

Soft Strip

Separations

Hand Demolition to the rear of the site

Demolition

Remove slab and foundations

Crush hardcore and concrete arisings and stockpile

Reduced dig to create basement area (clear from site)

Challenge:

Greenfield’s biggest challenge on this project was later on in the project. With the crushed material being reused by the client in the early stages of construction, Greenfield had to mobilise around a tight site during the reduced dig.

Solutions:

To enable us to reduce this challenge, Greenfield swapped one of our larger 22t Excavator for one of our smaller 13t Excavators. We have grown strong working relationships with local suppliers in and around the South East and worked closely with the haulage company to enable the amount of inert material that was being excavated being stockpiled

Our Role:

Our Scope:

Asbestos Removal

Soft Strip

Demolish all buildings

Crush all aggregate arising

This site consisted of six units, all of different sizes, ranging from 70m2 to 600m2. The site was adjacent to Coulsdon Town Train Station, with the two main warehouses sitting within 1.5m of the platform. With all boundaries of the site being associated with Network Rail property, we had to work closely with The Oakwood Group and Network Rail to come up with a suitable method which would not affect the live platform area.

We worked closely with local suppliers to ensure minimal disruption was caused during access to Coulsdon Town Train Station. We employed a watchman to stand on the platform to liaise with the site supervisor to communicate when the platform was busy so works could be suspended until passengers got on the train. This process continued until all sheets were removed from the roof and the wall was lowered to below the boundary fence. Once this was completed our 45t Excavator and our two 22t excavators completed the demolition contract.

Demolition (full)

Challenges

Our biggest challenge at New Cross was the close proximity to the surrounding neighbouring buildings. Each of the four buildings, three of which were removed in phase 1, had to be carefully demolished/dismantled on the boundary walls. This took one of our most experienced teams to complete within three weeks ahead of program.

Phase two is set to commence late 2018 which will bring a more complex method of demolition with the building being structurally weak.

Greenfield Demolition was employed as a principal contractor by Hodson Developments to demolish a standalone office building. Our scope was to erect hoarding gates for delivery and pedestrian gates, remove asbestos, strip out, demolish, remove slab and foundations, grub up car park area and remove all arisings from site.

Challenges

The main challenge on this project was the program being 5 weeks. The building being a two storey 3000m² and the car park area to the rear of the office building another 1000m².

The second challenge was the asbestos to the warehouse roof.

Solutions

To overcome these challenges, we allocated 90% of our site staff to this project.

The asbestos roof had to be brought down with the machine. We had exclusions zones and drop zones in place and prior to the removal with had suppressed the sheets with water. We carefully lowered the sheets to ground level straight into a roll on/off bin which was then taken into a licenced waste facility.

Greenfield Demolition was employed by Mole Valley District Council to undertake the demolition works as Principal Contractor to demolish football stands, clubhouse buildings, along with ancillary buildings and shelter/ dug outs. All the slab, pathways and foundations were grubbed up and all arisings carted away.

Challenges

The main challenge on this project was we had to ensure minimal damage was caused to the current football pitch, doing so mid-winter where the ground was very wet.

When grubbing up the pathways around the pitch we uncovered broken asbestos.

Further to this, it was a contentious project with mixed support from the public. Meadowbanks had been a football club since the late 19th Century. We also had to be wary of noise created due to the surrounding offices.

Solutions

To prevent damage when removing the dug outs, we laid track pads to move machinery across the pitch.

When the asbestos was discovered we first had our team to test the type of asbestos that was present.

Overview:

Greenfield Demolition were awarded the demolition works at Heathermount School by Beard Guildford to demolish a caretakers shed, two houses and removal of a slab. This job is to be completed over two phases

Our Scope:

Asbestos Removal

Demolition of Buildings

Remove Slab and Foundations

Remove all arisings from site

The first phase Greenfield was employed to demolish the caretakers workshop and break out and remove the slab where a former building was situated.

The second phase consisted of the demolition of the two houses. This phase also consisted of removal of notifiable asbestos, slab and foundation removal and clear all materials from site.

Challenges

The biggest challenge on this project was during the first phase where the school remained live.

During the second phase the program was one week to enable the project being completed before the start of school.

Solutions

Greenfield Demolition worked closely with Beard and had a safe system procedure. All site personnel were to stop works immediately if a pupil was to enter the site. A school official would escort the pupil off site and then work would continue

Overview:

Greenfield Demolition was employed by Smallworld UK to undertake the demolition works of an office in Reigate. Our scope was to strip out, demolish, remove slab and foundations and remove all arisings from site.

Challenges

The main challenge on this project was the neighbouring buildings owner whom had a lot uncertainties and under knowledge with demolition.

Solutions

Our supervisor spoke with the neighbour to talk about methods of work and how we would cause minimal disturbance as possible. To create minimal disturbance Greenfield Demolition had one labourer directing a hose on the area of operation to minimise dust. We also used a dust buster machine for the overall site to create less arising dust.
